About the Show
Why is this version of Sonic called SatAM?
SatAM stands for Saturday Morning. In some countries, the SatAM series actually aired on Sunday or other times. The reason it’s called SatAM in the USA is because it aired alongside the syndicated Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, and fans called it SatAM to differentiate between the two; other countries just adopted the name SatAM.
How many episodes are there?
Twenty-six, in two seasons of thirteen: Season 1 aired on ABC from 18 September to 11 December 1993, and Season 2 from 10 September to 3 December 1994. Two Season 2 episodes are double bills of eleven-minute shorts.
What order should I watch them in?
Our guides use the order of the DVDs and of Luke’s original guide, starting with the pilot, Heads or Tails. ABC aired them in a different order – Season 1 premiered with Super Sonic – and our airing history lists every broadcast date. Season 1 is mostly stand-alone; most of Season 2 builds towards The Doomsday Project, so watch it in order.
Who voiced Sonic?
Jaleel White – Steve Urkel in Family Matters – who played the same hero in the syndicated Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and, later, Sonic Underground. The full cast is on our Season 1 and Season 2 pages.
Why is Princess Sally pink in Heads or Tails? For that matter, why is everyone different?
The original Princess Sally was pink, and this was the one used for Heads or Tails. Also, Heads or Tails was the pilot episode. Lots of testing goes into a pilot, including looks and personalities.
What is Antoine’s surname?
On the show he is Antoine D’Coolette. Archie’s comics gave him a different surname, Depardieu, which is why you will see both.
Episodes & Story
If Bunnie wasn’t roboticized in Blast to the Past: Part 2, why is she roboticized in the future?
Who said Bunnie HAD to be roboticized in Blast to the Past, Part 2? My guess is she was roboticized along the line somewhere, NOT in that episode. Think of this too: robot parts don’t grow, so if Bunnie was roboticized in BTTP Part 2, she’d have very small limbs in the future.
Why were those two crappy shorts with Antoine made?
As far as Luke knew, ABC said DiC had to make them – we have not found a source that confirms it. (They are Fed Up with Antoine / Ghost Busted and The Odd Couple / Ro-Becca.)
Whose eyes were behind Snively in the elevator?
Ixis Naugus. Not Metal Sonic, NOT Knuckles, Ixis Naugus. (Ben Hurst confirmed it to fans; see The Doomsday Project.)
Cancellation & Season 3
Why was it cancelled?
Update: there were several reasons. Luke’s original answer – and Ben Hurst’s – was the ratings, hurt by Power Rangers in the same slot and by sports pre-emptions, and new management at ABC after Disney bought it. A document found in 2025 adds a contract fight: Sega took legal action against DiC in 1995 over the sale of SatAM cels, which Wikipedia now treats as the main cause. The full story is on our cancellation page.
What was in the 2025 document?
A draft legal complaint from Sega of America against DiC: Sega accused DiC of selling SatAM cels and not accounting for the show’s money, and moved to end the contract – including the series that would have been Season 3. It is all in our cancellation article.
Was there going to be a Season 3?
Only outlines were written. Ben Hurst said it would have developed Sonic and Tails’ friendship and brought in Knuckles near the end. See the Season 3 that never was.
Movies, DVDs & Streaming
I heard a movie for SatAM was in the works. Is this true?
Update: no SatAM movie has ever been made, and none has been announced. Sonic did make it to cinemas – Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog (2020), Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022) and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024) – but those films are based on the games, not on SatAM.
Luke’s original answer still holds: if you hear SatAM rumours from anyone, wait for an official announcement before you get your hopes up. Ben Hurst, whom fans always hoped would be involved, died in 2010 (some sources say 2011).
Where can I watch SatAM today?
Update: every episode is free on WildBrain’s official YouTube channels (our episode pages embed them), MeTV Toons in the US began showing it on 21 September 2026, and Paramount+ has carried it in some countries.
Where can I buy the DVD?
Update: the current release is NCircle Entertainment’s two-disc The Complete Series (2023). Shout! Factory’s four-disc set from 2007, which has the Jaleel White and Ben Hurst interviews, turns up second-hand. Our Season 1 and Season 2 pages list every VHS and DVD.
How do I know my DVDs are not bootlegs?
The cover art should be a dead giveaway. The official complete sets are Shout! Factory’s (US and Canada, 2007, with box art by Ken Penders), Delta’s Region 2 set (UK, 2007) and NCircle’s (2023); NCircle also put out single-disc collections between 2008 and 2010. Anything else is a bootleg. Do not be fooled by fakes on eBay. They will be of poor quality and generally have watermarks on them. Unless it’s one of the covers below, it is a bootleg and should be avoided at all costs.

Other Sonic Cartoons
Where can I get Sonic X, SU or AoStH info?
Update: right here, these days – our Sonic cartoons section covers every series, from Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog to Sonic Boom.
Is SatAM connected to the Archie comics?
Yes. Archie Comics’ Sonic the Hedgehog, which began with a miniseries at the end of 1992, adopted the cartoon’s Freedom Fighters, Robotnik and Knothole and kept them for more than two decades, until the series ended after issue #290 in 2016. Two Season 2 episodes were even adapted as comics. See our Archie Comics primer.
About This Site
Can you get pictures from “such-and-such” episode(s) up?
Update: every episode now has its own page with a title card and screenshots. If there is a scene you would like to see, or you have images to share, let us know through our contact page.
Can I take [whatever] from your page?
Not without permission. If you’d like to ask about this, get in touch through our contact page with a description of what you want to borrow.
If I cannot take the files, can I link to them?
NO! That’s even worse than taking my files! Hotlinking slows down the server for everyone else, and wastes my bandwidth!
Will you link/affiliate to my page?
I only link to pages that I really like and that I feel are worth the time to visit that I found on my own, but I’ll probably add you if your website is good enough.
Do you accept SatAM fan art and fan fiction?
Update: our old automated submission system is gone, but our fan fiction archive lives on. Get in touch through our contact page if you would like to contribute.
Can I contact you about the site?
Yes! Use our contact page. PLEASE read the following question first, though!
Do you have Ben Hurst’s email? I have an idea to bring SatAM back and only he can hear it!
Update: sadly, Ben Hurst passed away in August 2010 (Wikipedia gives 2011) – see our memorial page. As Luke used to say, the best way to show interest in SatAM coming back is a well-thought-out letter to Sega and to WildBrain (which now owns DiC’s library) – just don’t spam them, or be constantly incessant about it, or they’ll ignore you!
