Series premiereLazarSonic loses his speed
Super Sonic is episode 6 of Season 1 of Sonic the Hedgehog, the ABC cartoon fans call SatAM, in the order of our original episode guide and the Shout! Factory DVDs. It was the first Season 1 episode to air, on 18 September 1993. It was written by Jules Dennis and directed by Dick Sebast.
Synopsis
On a trip to the city for a replacement microchip for NICOLE, Sonic and Sally stray into the Forbidden Zone and meet its cloaked Guardian, keeper of the sleeping wizard Lazar and his computer of spells. Robotnik learns of the place too, and both sides race to claim the spells before the other can.
Sonic battles swinging maces, a crumbling rope bridge and the other traps of Lazar’s fortress, only to find that Robotnik has beaten him to the computer. The newly woken Lazar blames the hedgehog and takes away his speed, which he will get back only if he returns the computer. Meanwhile Sally and Bunnie are captured, and Robotnik tries out his new spells on them, binding them to his will.
Slow but stubborn, Sonic teams up with the Guardian and gets into Robotnik’s control room, where his enchanted friends turn on him. He snatches the computer, remembers how Lazar worked his spells and breaks the enchantment, and Bunnie’s martial arts clear the way out. Lazar restores Sonic’s speed and his fortress vanishes, while Knothole celebrates a power upgrade for its water wheel.
Sonic and Robotnik both learn of a powerful, dormant wizard’s computer of magic spells, and race each other to get it. Sonic is thought to be the thief of the wizard’s computer when he awakens, and loses his speed. Can he clear his name, get the computer back, AND stop Robotnik, while speed-less, or is Sonic just an ordinary hedgehog now?
