The President sends G.U.N., with Rouge and Topaz, after Sonic, while Eggman reveals the real purpose of his Sunshine Balls: they broadcast a hidden signal that wins their owners over to him and turns them against Sonic. At the mansion, Amy smashes a way out to the X-Tornado, and Sam Speed’s Speed Team scatters the mob led by Jerome Wise.

Even Chris begins to wonder whether Sonic has gone too far, but Sonic explains his thinking: keeping the Moon parked in front of the Sun takes constant, deliberate steering, so Eggman must be controlling it from below. Riding his new popularity, the doctor takes the President hostage and moves to seize the government.

Sonic and his friends, backed by Mr. Stewart, rescue the President, while Knuckles, Mr. Tanaka, Rouge and Topaz take a space shuttle to the Egg Moon and cut Eggman’s control of it. Lured into one last trick, Eggman ends up behind bars with Decoe and Bocoe, and the cheering crowds send Sonic running from his own fans.
