Season 1 is where Sonic Boom found its voice. Across 52 eleven-minute episodes, Cartoon Network introduced American viewers to a lankier Sonic, a much bigger Knuckles, the jungle badger Sticks and a village full of sarcastic animals, and to an Eggman who is as likely to move in with the heroes as to blow them up.
Most episodes are self-contained sitcom stories: Eggman sues Sonic, Amy opens a restaurant, Knuckles becomes mayor, Tails falls in love. Along the way the season builds a rogues’ gallery that runs from Dave the Intern and the hopeless Lightning Bolt Society to Shadow the Hedgehog, who turns up for the finale.
This page lists every episode with its US premiere, writer and a full synopsis, then looks at the characters, broadcast history, French titles, DVDs and trivia. Each episode also has its own page with credits, screenshots and more.

Quick Answers
How many episodes are in Sonic Boom Season 1?
52 episodes of about eleven minutes, numbered 1 to 52. They premiered on Cartoon Network in the US between 8 November 2014 and 14 November 2015.
What was the first episode?
“The Sidekick”, shown back to back with “Can an Evil Genius Crash on Your Couch for a Few Days?” on Saturday 8 November 2014. In France, Canal J started the show on 19 November 2014.
Do I have to watch in order?
No. Nearly every episode stands alone. We use the broadcast numbering found in Luke’s original list and on Wikipedia; the US DVDs put the episodes in a different order.
Is Season 1 connected to the Sonic Boom games?
Rise of Lyric and Shattered Crystal, released three days after the show began, are prequels set in the same world. The season itself does not depend on them.
Who are the new characters?
Sticks the Badger, Dave the Intern, Mayor Fink, Fastidious Beaver, Lady Walrus, Comedy Chimp, Soar the Eagle, T.W. Barker, the Lightning Bolt Society, Zooey, the Gogobas and Charlie, among others (several villagers also appear in the Boom games released the same week). Orbot and Cubot come from Sonic Colours, and Shadow and Metal Sonic make guest appearances.

Season 1’s Eggman is a neighbour as much as a nemesis. He crashes on Tails’ couch, gets stuck in a time loop and needs the heroes to get out, spends an episode trapped in a temple with Sonic and secretly plays figurine games with Amy.

Episode Synopses
Each synopsis is written for Sonic Scene, drawing on the official episode descriptions, Wikipedia’s summaries and Sonic Wiki Zone’s plot outlines and transcripts. Spoilers ahead.
S01E01 The Sidekick

Every hero needs a sidekick, and in the very first episode Sonic decides his is in too much danger. Eggman’s Burnbot sends Tails and his plane crashing to earth, and once his pal is bandaged up, Sonic lets him go, for his own protection.
The search for a replacement is a comedy of bad candidates. Amy juggles, Fastidious Beaver admits to cowardice, Knuckles thinks he is the one hiring, and the most promising applicant of all is Tails in a hood. Eggman applies too. Against his better judgement Sonic waves three finalists through, his old sidekick and his worst enemy among them, and sets them a hoverboard race to a flag on Mount Safety.
The doctor, of course, only wants both heroes out of the way, and Burnbot is waiting. On a frozen lake we learn the fastest thing alive can’t swim, and it is Tails who drags Sonic out of the water and flies them to safety. At sunset Sonic hands his best friend his job back, while at the shack Amy talks her way into a try-out as Knuckles’ sidekick.
S01E02 Can an Evil Genius Crash on Your Couch for a Few Days?

There are bad roommates, and then there is Dr. Eggman. Claiming the storm has wrecked his fortress, he talks his way onto Tails’ couch for “a few days”, with Orbot and Cubot in tow, and the rest of the gang can’t believe their eyes the next morning.
Amy thinks he just needs understanding, and even calls a house meeting so everyone can share their feelings. Sticks thinks it’s a trap. Meanwhile the guest padlocks the food, cackles in his sleep, starts pillow fights at random and keeps Sonic and Tails up till dawn with board games and the Comedy Chimp Show.
Score one for Sticks: a half-asleep Sonic and Tails are exactly what Eggman wanted when he unleashes his Obliterator Bot. Unluckily for him, the robot misunderstands its orders and heads off to demolish his lair instead, and by the time the heroes hit its kill switches there is not much fortress left. The next day he is back asking to stay while it is rebuilt. Sonic drags him home, and Amy’s offer of a therapy session finishes the job.
S01E03 Translate This

Some inventions are too honest for their own good. Tails’ UT can translate any language, birdsong included, but aimed at friends who already speak the same one, it reveals what they really mean, and the team is soon at each other’s throats. Amy has it switched off just in time to keep her crush on Sonic a secret.
Eggman has been eavesdropping, and he smells an opportunity. A fake UT swapped in overnight lets him put insults in everyone’s mouths, while the real one tells him how wonderful he is. Tails sees through the fake, but the others are happy to see the back of UT, so he walks into the lair alone and bargains: his services as Eggman’s assistant, in exchange for UT’s freedom.
UT brings home a breezy message saying Tails is staying put, then helpfully translates it: help. The rescue goes better than expected, as Orbot never got the deal signed, and Sticks and Knuckles knock a photon bomb back into Eggman’s Mega robot. The team owes UT one, they admit, until it lets slip that Sticks wants to destroy it, and she flings it off a cliff.
S01E04 Buster

Sticks is a lot of things, but gentle with animals is not one of them, so her friends prescribe a pet. She turns her nose up at everything cute in the pet shop and falls for a little robot dog fished out of the trash, who never stops leaking slime. Sticks christens him Buster and declares him perfect.
Within a week he has slimed every member of the team and most of their belongings. Worse, when Orbot and Cubot rob the DangerCo warehouse disguised as Sonic and Tails, Sticks won’t join the fight in case Buster gets hurt, and the pup gets under Sonic’s feet. Her friends make her choose: them or the dog.
Then the doctor himself drops in with a metal chew toy and a confession: the pup is one of his own creations, and the robbery was all about upgrading him. One chew and he becomes a tentacled monster with the team in his grip. Sticks, of all people, wins him back with a stern telling-off, and he sends his maker packing. Sticks sets her pet free on the beach, and Tails’ plan for a pet octopus is over almost before it begins.
S01E05 My Fair Sticksy

Sticks can rig a village-wide meteor defence out of giant racquets, but a fancy dinner? That is terrifying. When her heroics earn her a nomination for an Awardy Award, she has to admit to Amy that she has never learned how to behave in polite company.
Amy’s lessons in being a lady go wrong from the first compliment, which Sticks answers by sniffing her. Tea is lapped, dance practice ends on the floor, and Sonic only agrees to be her escort because nobody makes him wear trousers. Yet at the gala she stays on her best behaviour, and is even polite to Eggman, who has wangled a nomination of his own through his Ballot Stuffer Bot.
When Leroy the Turtle wins, the doctor throws a tantrum with Bee Bots and force fields. Sticks hesitates, then lets the wild badger loose, saves the night and takes the trophy off Leroy, who agrees she deserves it. Amy concedes that manners aren’t everything and asks Sticks to teach her to trust her instincts. The first lesson takes place in a dumpster.
S01E06 Fortress of Squalitude

Nobody at Sonic’s shack appreciates the effort Amy puts into lunch, so when Eggman turns up needing a designer, she is all ears. Modern Lair Magazine nearly passed on his fortress for being old-fashioned, and he has a week to fix it.
Given a free hand, Amy goes all in on her own taste, angel costumes for Orbot and Cubot included, and the magazine’s scout, Gunther, loves the result. Eggman takes the credit, and when Amy tries to quit, he locks her in a cage as his permanent decorator.
Her friends, who have learned that meals without Amy are grim, are told at the door that she wants nothing more to do with them. Sonic doesn’t buy it. Via the sewers and a hammer-sized hole in the wall, the team springs her, and she quits in person while they wreck the place, just as Gunther arrives with the photographer, Diane Aardvark, who fires him on the spot. As a consolation, Sonic offers her his shack to make over instead, as long as she leaves his coconut husks alone.
S01E07 Double Doomsday

Dave, the Meh Burger cashier, is Eggman’s biggest fan, so when the doctor offers him an unpaid internship, he treats bathroom duty as an honour. Orbot and Cubot are less thrilled to have an overachiever around, and with good reason: Before long, Cubot has been taken apart.
Promoted to protégé, Dave tires of waiting for real villainy, locks himself in the lab and finishes his boss’s Doomsday Device, a machine that can erase the planet. Eggman, refusing to be upstaged by an intern, builds a rival one. Neither has an off switch. Tails, fresh from putting Cubot back together, has a plan: match the two devices exactly and their blasts should cancel out, so he quietly helps Dave while Sonic runs ridiculous errands for Eggman.
It almost works. One battery Sonic forgot to put in leaves the machines slightly unequal, and a black hole opens over the lair. Armed with Tails’ new Reverse Polarizer, Sonic must race right up to the edge to turn its pull inside out without being swallowed. The intern is promptly fired, and heads back to the burger counter swearing he will get even.
S01E08 Eggheads

Eggman’s most devious recipe yet is a batch of cookies baked with his own DNA: one bite and you become a copy of him, moustache and ego included. The basket left at Sonic’s shack misses its main target, because Sonic gets called away to help Tails with a runaway super vacuum, but Knuckles, Amy and Sticks all help themselves, and Tails claims the last one.
Suddenly the doctor has four evil geniuses (or, in Knuckles’ words, three geniuses and a mastermind of average intelligence) and puts them through villain school, from moustache care to exams on capturing Sonic. Orbot and Cubot can’t stand having so many bosses and tip off Sonic, whose rescue attempt ends with his friends cornering him, then brawling over who gets the credit.
Ducking out of the fight, Sonic spots the cookie machine and feeds Eggman a cookie made from his own DNA, which turns the doctor blue and briefly heroic. While his new ally holds the line, Sonic collects hair from his friends’ homes for a batch of antidote cookies. Once everyone is back to normal, Sticks returns the favour with one of Eggman’s originals, and the restored villain stomps off to plan again.
S01E09 Guilt Tripping

The Gogobas are tiny, adorable and absolute masters of guilt. Sonic and Tails find this out after rescuing their village from the Weasel Bandits, a job that ends with the crooks catapulted away by a palm tree and the heroes trying, and failing, to say goodbye.
Every exit is blocked by kindness. There is a feast that will go to waste if they don’t eat it, a bed for the night with the nursery’s only blanket, and a whole village sitting up to watch over them. Even the defence system they build so they can leave ends up trapping the villagers. Sonic finally out-guilts the chief, pleading thirsty houseplants, only to get home and find the Gogobas have moved into his shack.
Help comes from an unlikely direction. Eggman attacks, and once his robots are scrap, Sonic convinces him that the Gogobas were the secret of Team Sonic’s success, then persuades the chief that the poor doctor deserves their pity more. The tribe follows Eggman home, and soon he is the one who can’t get any peace.
S01E10 Dude, Where’s My Eggman?

In a robot take on Dude, Where’s My Car?, Eggman’s henchbots switch on with a whole day missing from their memory banks and no idea where their boss has gone. Cubot would happily enjoy the day off. Orbot insists on detective work.
The investigation is a tour of bad decisions. Knuckles’ version of the previous day’s battle stars himself, and the local police say they locked up someone matching Eggman’s description. To raise bail, the bots busk, fail to con Amy out of her penguin-sweater savings and watch T.W. Barker drive off in the Eggmobile for good. The eventual jailbreak frees the wrong prisoner: Willy Walrus, who only looks like the boss.
Willy’s story leads to a helium warehouse and, worse, to a Disintegrator Ray lying next to a moustache. Convinced their master has zapped himself, the grieving pair trudge home to find Eggman alive and well, a surprise party in full swing and a breakfast burrito to explain his absence. Then he admits he wiped their memories himself, and does it again, so when he asks where the Eggmobile is, nobody can tell him.
S01E11 Cowbot

Team Sonic can’t stop laughing at Eggman’s new weapon, a robot cow that fires cud missiles, until he mentions that it is packed with Mootonium and will vaporise everything for twenty miles if anyone blows it up. The safe option is to tip it over and let Tails rewire it. The result: a Cowbot that now wants to destroy its own inventor.
Amy insists that letting that happen would be wrong, so a reluctant Sonic and Tails head to the lair, where Eggman has cannibalised his defences to build the thing. The cow is in no hurry, so the siege becomes a sleepover. With a freeze ray and a force field ready, the three of them sip hot chocolate, play coconut hurl and toast marshmallows by the fire, and the doctor admits he has no real friends.
When the big moment finally comes, sticky fingers short-circuit everything, but the mess gives Tails an idea: a bucketful of marshmallows, delivered by catapult, gums up the cow for good. Naturally the doctor then reveals it was all a ruse to get his security upgraded. Sonic gums that up too, and Orbot and Cubot finish the job by snacking.
S01E12 Circus of Plunders

Tails’ latest invention needs work. Fired straight off the drawing board in mid-battle, the Unbolterizer misses its target and nearly buries Amy, Knuckles and Sticks. Their fury (Sticks decides he must be a mole) sends Tails off alone to fix it.
Moments later the others are nearly flattened by a road train. Its driver, the ringmaster T.W. Barker, is short of acts (food poisoning, he says), so Amy volunteers everyone, and a quick dare gets Sonic on board. Soon the whole team is in the ring, from human cannonball Knuckles to Amy, a deeply unhappy sad clown. The show is a smash.
Too much of a smash: Barker’s old troupe ran away, and he has no intention of losing his new stars, who end up behind bars, with Sonic sealed in a sphere bought from Eggman Industries. Luckily Tails, who has spent the day perfecting his invention by repeatedly zapping Eggman’s TV remote, comes looking for his friends, rips the tent off and blasts them free. Barker gets a spin in his own sphere, and the team owes Tails an apology.
S01E13 Unlucky Knuckles

Knuckles has lost to Sonic at Gopher Ball all week, and he refuses to believe skill has anything to do with it. Sticks has a theory: some cosmic scale has tipped against him, and the only fix is to use up his bad luck as quickly as he can.
So Knuckles goes looking for misfortune. He drops boulders on himself, leaps into canyons, fires himself into a beehive and strolls through a meteor shower, and a fridge lands on him mid-gloat at Sonic’s shack. His friends are horrified. Eggman, meanwhile, notices his own luck is running hot and launches a full invasion of the village.
When Knuckles’ arrival brings debris down on the team and lets Eggman slip away, Sonic tries something sneaky: he brands his friend a jinx and goads him into defecting. It works: the Mega goes haywire and blows itself to bits the moment its new ally shows up. The doctor flees, and a bewildered Knuckles is told he was on an undercover mission the whole time. Where did the jinx go? Ask Tails, who gets flattened by falling debris on the way home.
S01E14 The Meteor

A purple space rock lands near Team Sonic’s campfire, Sonic and Eggman race to claim it, and both touch it at once. When the flash fades, Sonic is waking up in the lair with a moustache, no speed at all and Mike Pollock’s voice, while a blue Eggman is being fussed over by Amy.
The doctor soon masters super speed and plots to wipe out the team, but keeps postponing it because Sonic’s friends are more fun than he expected. Orbot and Cubot only believe the real Sonic when he thanks them, something their boss never does, but his friends just laugh, and when “Sonic” cries assault, they chase him off.
Cubot points out the obvious: Sonic now commands an army. He sends in the robots with orders to go easy on his friends, while Tails works out how the swap happened after a lizard and a fly touch the meteor together. Eggman would rather stay fast, thank you, and only gives in when Sonic threatens to trim his moustache. Home in his own body, the doctor finds a nasty sunburn with a Sonic-shaped pale patch on his forehead, Orbot and Cubot’s idea of a joke.
S01E15 Aim Low

Eggman’s latest robot is wrecked before it can fire a shot, and this time the doctor doesn’t even get angry. He just goes home and mopes, until a TV advert offers salvation in the shape of Soar the Eagle, life coach.
Soar’s programme is all baby steps: pinch Dave’s lunch at Meh Burger, spoil some children’s ice creams, blow up a hillside to make a statue of yourself. It works too well. A swaggering Eggman fires his coach, then finds he can’t make a single decision without him and sinks deeper into his sofa than ever.
Peace should suit Sonic, but with no villain to fight he turns into a bored, twitchy menace, and Tails, Amy and Knuckles all lose a project to his restlessness. In self-defence, they try to get Eggman back on his feet. Staging a fake defeat to lure Sonic over fools nobody, but when Eggman calls Amy’s plan stupid, Sonic leaps to her defence, the old rivalry flares up and the robots roll out. Everyone smiles: normal service has resumed.
S01E16 How to Succeed in Evil Without Really Trying

A spy disguised as a tree watches Tails’ new berry-picking machine run wild and grind a whole orchard to pulp, including the berries Sticks needed for the pie festival. To the hooded members of the Lightning Bolt Society, that looks like the work of an evil genius.
While his friends go off to the festival, a guilty Tails is left replanting trees, so when the hooded strangers turn up offering membership and a handy seed gun, he says yes without asking what the club is for. Its members, Dave and Willy Walrus among them, make him their leader, and only when they unveil their master plan, a takeover of every fruit stand around, does he realise they are crooks.
Eggman, who knows the Society mainly as the people who raid his bins, storms over to stop a team-up and bursts in at the same moment as Sonic and Amy. Each side assumes the other is signing up. In the chaos the villains mob Eggman for autographs, the heroes slip away, and Tails’ machine finally earns its keep by mowing down the mutant plants sprouting in the orchard. Sticks forgives him. The replanting, however, remains his job.
S01E17 Don’t Judge Me

Sonic Boom does courtroom drama. After a night-time scrap with Eggman’s Moth Bot, settled with a giant catapult, a glowing light bulb and some moth balls, the doctor is carried off clutching his neck, and the next day a process server hands Sonic a lawsuit. Sonic laughs it off, until Soar the Eagle starts calling it the trial of the century.
Amy is away on a beekeeping course, so Knuckles defends him. The other side has a wheelchair-bound Eggman, the smooth T.W. Barker and a robot judge who looks a lot like Burnbot. Barker paints the attack as an innocent evening drive, Orbot screens a heartwarming (and fake) home movie, and even Tails’ glowing character reference is turned against Sonic. Knuckles’ masterstroke is to question himself, arguing that Sonic is far too weak to hurt anyone, until his furious client incriminates himself.
The village jury dithers, and Judge Bot is about to declare Sonic guilty when Amy storms back in and slams her hammer on the floor. The room shakes, Eggman’s “broken” neck swivels round to see what happened, and the case collapses into a brawl that spills out of the courthouse in the middle of Soar’s live report.
S01E18 Dr. Eggman’s Tomato Sauce

Has Eggman gone straight? He is handing out free tasters of his own tomato sauce in the village, and even Sonic, who knocks the first spoonfuls out of the villagers’ hands, has to admit it tastes great. Tails tests a few cans and finds nothing sinister, and within weeks the doctor is a local star, with a young fan, Stratford, to prove it.
Meanwhile gadgets all over the island start playing up, including Tails’ beloved plane. The explanation arrives on Meh Burger’s TV, which refuses to switch off, as the doctor tells Comedy Chimp’s viewers that the sauce was never the danger. The cans were, little robots that have spent weeks rewiring everyone’s electronics into an army.
One flick of a switch and the village’s appliances turn on their owners. Tails stays behind to tame his own plane while the others storm the lair to free the talk-show host and take on Scrapheap Bot, which keeps rebuilding itself from cans. Victory only comes when Tails plucks the controller out of Eggman’s hand mid-gloat. With a camera still rolling, Eggman then boasts that he will do it all again, and ends the day surrounded by boxes of unsold sauce.
S01E19 Sole Power

Imagine being the fastest thing alive and suddenly unable to run. Every time Sonic hits top speed an ear-splitting whine goes off, bad enough to send the voice-controlled Tailsmobile careering towards a volcano. A battery of tests in the workshop explains nothing, and Sonic is banned from running.
Walking is torture, and sitting out a Crab Bot attack is worse, especially once Sticks ties him to a tree for back-seat driving. So when Eggman, lounging on a beach chair and feeling unneeded himself, offers a sympathetic ear, Sonic takes it. The doctor diagnoses an age-related condition with a very long name and prescribes a cure in the form of new footwear. The noise stops.
Of course they are a trap. The shoes can’t be taken off, and every step Sonic takes charges up Eggman’s Giant Robot, which keeps going on stored power even when he stands still. The doctor, it turns out, was playing the noise himself, though Amy smashes his hologram before he can finish explaining. Sonic’s counter-plan is simple: feed it more power than it can take, running faster and faster until the thing blows up.
S01E20 Hedgehog Day

Eggman finally beats Sonic, and it doesn’t count. A lightning bolt striking between his plasma ball and his laser in mid-battle has trapped him in a time loop, and every morning Orbot serves the same breakfast. Using his foreknowledge he perfects the attack, down to making sure Team Sonic rent a silent film so Tails’ projector can’t be turned into a weapon, and wins. Then the day resets.
So he does what anyone would do with no consequences: junk food, a trimmed moustache, then the unthinkable. He asks Sonic and Tails for help, winning them over by predicting the future and spoiling the end of their film. Tails’ solution, trapping the reaction in a super-dense container, takes two more loops just to hear in full, a day to build and several more loops because Knuckles, the one strong enough to carry it, keeps stalling.
The reason is a dentist’s appointment he is dreading, and Sticks solves that by pulling the tooth herself. When Eggman next wakes up, Orbot is serving sausages instead of bacon, and the overjoyed doctor hugs him, just as a flash goes off. It is only Cubot, taking a photo.
S01E21 Sleeping Giant

Parasailing behind a running Sonic seems like a great idea to Knuckles, right up until he flies face-first into a rock formation that turns out to be asleep. Amy identifies it as a Granifer Giganticus, an ancient mountain-dweller unseen for centuries, and this one is cranky. It swats Tails’ plane out of the sky and stomps about until Tails spots the symptoms of insomnia: it just wants to sleep.
A lullaby seems the obvious answer. Amy’s sweet rendition sends it running with its hands over its ears; Sticks’ tuneless screeching, which has her friends covering theirs, puts it straight to sleep. Then Eggman tries to cage “Rocky” with his Bee Bots, and in the confusion the giant slips away with Sticks, its new favourite singer.
Tails’ Disasterometer tracks her down, the team parasails to the rescue, and Sonic has a plan for their enormous pursuer: lead it into Eggman’s meditation garden, then play a looped recording of Sticks. Rocky settles down for a nap, which, Amy notes, takes about a year to get going properly. To spare his lair any more damage, the doctor gives in and replants his garden on top of his new guest.
S01E22 The Curse of Buddy Buddy Temple

An ancient temple swallows Sonic and Eggman mid-chase and slams its doors behind them, and the only way out is the one thing neither wants to do: cooperate. The Buddy Buddy Temple, its carvings explain, exists to deepen the bond between two people, and every chamber is built around that idea.
So the pair take turns saving each other. Sonic, nursing a twisted ankle, ends up in a harness hauling the Eggmobile; lava rises until they pull levers for one another, and darts and closing walls follow. Eggman even fakes an injury to lock Sonic in a crushing room, only to discover he can’t get through the next trial without him.
Outside, leaderless chaos. Orbot and Cubot happily abandon their boss, then come back because freedom is too much for them, while Amy and Knuckles spend the whole time arguing about who is in charge. The argument ends when the ground gives way and drops everyone into the temple, just in time for a mine-cart escape from the collapsing ruins. Eggman reckons they made a good team; Sonic is having none of it, and the two sides go back to being enemies.
S01E23 Let’s Play Musical Friends

Eggman’s latest pal is strictly online. Nominatus is a living virus with a superior sneer, and the doctor is so taken with him that Orbot and Cubot, ignored and fed up, go looking for new friends. Team Sonic flees at the mention of charades, leaving Tails to palm them off with a laptop game.
That laptop happens to show what is really going on in the lair: Nominatus is taking over every machine Eggman owns. Before long the doctor is fleeing his own Bee Bots, and the virus announces a plan to wipe out all life as illogical and messy. Only an artificial intelligence can get past the firewall, which means everyone’s fate rests with Orbot and Cubot.
Uploaded into a cyber world that looks like a 16-bit game, the bots accidentally fly Tails’ real plane, set Burnbot loose and escape a crushing room with a lucky cheat code. Face to face with Nominatus at last, they settle who has to fight him with a round of Rock-Donut-Thursday, a game so illogical that the virus’s head explodes. Worn out, hero and villain agree they could both do with fewer battles, and book the next one for a week’s time.
S01E24 Late Fees

Sonic and Knuckles are busy turning the Tailsmobile into a death-defying fairground ride when Amy calls about the library book Sonic borrowed. It is due back today, and he has no idea where it is. By the time he has tracked it down, the library closes in seven minutes, which for the fastest thing alive should be plenty.
The island has other ideas. A chatty elderly monkey keeps crossing the road in front of him at a crawl, and Sticks’ alien hunt and the Gogoba chief’s guilt trips cost him precious seconds. Worst of all, a detour for a chili dog ends with Sonic sprinting to a warehouse two villages away to fetch one for Eggman, who then complains about the topping.
Sure enough, the ungrateful doctor attacks just short of the finish, and the whole team has to pitch in against his robots. Then the book goes missing in the scuffle (Knuckles is busy enjoying the pictures), and when Sonic finally arrives, the library has shut early. Luckily the doctor fires one last shot on his way out, and the hole it leaves in the wall is just big enough to pass the book through.
S01E25 Into the Wilderness

Sonic reckons all those battles with Eggman make him a survival expert, a claim slightly undermined when he falls down a well while making it. So Sticks sets a challenge: girls against boys, in a race through the jungle to Hidden Meadows, about four days away on foot. Sonic could run there and back in a second, but the rules say he has to bring Knuckles.
While Sticks drills Amy in fires, knots and which plants won’t kill you, the boys train by eating burgers in front of the TV. The boys’ plan to tail the girls and sprint past at the end collapses when they party all night and oversleep, waking up lost, and the girls’ secret attempts to steer them home get nowhere.
Then Amy and Sticks tumble into one of Eggman’s abandoned missile silos, and the boys leave them there. Bad move. Sticks rigs a launch, and the girls ride the missile over the boys’ heads and parachute onto the finish line. Sonic cries foul; Amy argues that improvising is what survival is all about. The missile, meanwhile, has been stamped “Return to Sender”, as Eggman discovers a moment too late.
S01E26 Eggman Unplugged

Team Sonic’s best prank yet, a tub of whipped cream catapulted onto Eggman courtesy of his own spy camera, works a little too well. Sticks’ rant about the evils of technology strikes a chord, and the doctor renounces every machine he owns, except Orbot and Cubot. Soon he is learning to use a bowl and spoon and arming himself with kitchenware.
An empty lair is too good to pass up, and the Lightning Bolt Society moves in. They have no idea what any of the buttons do, which is the problem: a squabble over a joystick sends the Octopus Bot into the village, a stray missile lands in the canyon and a swarm of Bee Bots joins in, with nobody really in charge.
Sonic finds Eggman happily farming and not remotely interested, until Dave switches off Orbot and Cubot by accident and the doctor storms back into action. A secret back door, and a fake plan the Society overhears, let him and the heroes retake the lair. Eggman asks for a few weeks’ truce while he repairs the damage and offers everyone some home-churned butter. They decline, and the doctor faces the prospect of eating it all himself.
S01E27 Chez Amy

When Meh Burger serves Amy a fish sandwich with the fish still alive, she decides the village deserves better and opens Chez Amy, with her friends conscripted as waiters and cooks. The customers love it. So begins the Battle of the Buns.
It escalates fast. Dave unveils a drive-through (nobody in the village has a car), Amy hands out free “magic fun lumps” that are really just stones, and Meh Burger answers with a cannon that fires burgers straight into diners’ mouths. By the time Amy is planning to top that, her staff have had enough of their bossy boss and walk out.
Enter a new business partner: Eggman, who promises to fill the place, and does, by blowing up Meh Burger overnight. A guilty Amy gives the jobless Dave a job, and when Eggman sends robots to deal with his sloppy service, she needs the whole team to stop them. Chez Amy doesn’t survive, Meh Burger is rebuilt, and Amy’s thank-you meal arrives with a familiar, wriggling fish.
S01E28 Blue with Envy

Every hero dreads the day a cooler one shows up. For Sonic it is Swifty, a skateboarding shrew who zooms into the village, beats him to a rescue and has Amy and Sticks swooning and Tails hanging around his workshop. Sonic, meanwhile, is left picking glue off his shoes and grumbling.
His jealousy boils over into a challenge, a race through the streets, and whoever loses has to leave for good. His friends see through Swifty and send him packing, but the villagers are firmly on the newcomer’s side, and however fast Sonic goes, Swifty is somehow always ahead. Mayor Fink banishes the sore loser, and two police officers make sure he stays out.
The secret, as Eggman proudly reveals, is that there are lots of Swiftys, all robots, and the whole thing was a plot to get Sonic out of the way while he builds his dream: a theme park, evil by design, with endless queues, pricey souvenirs and food well past its best. Mayor Fink wants a proper council vote before lifting the ban, so Amy hurries him along, and once Sonic is back inside the boundary the Swiftys don’t last a second.
S01E29 Curse of the Cross Eyed Moose

In Sticks’ world there is no such thing as a harmless animal sighting. So when a cross-eyed moose looks her way while she is fishing, she knows the whole team is doomed, and every bit of everyday bad luck becomes proof. Her friends soon find their homes ringed with protective traps.
Humouring her is easier than arguing, so Team Sonic sets off through the woods to consult the one expert who can help, a mystical marmoset called Monkey-Boy. He is officially retired from curse-lifting and makes them earn his help with chores, guacamole and laundry included.
Eggman picks that moment to try to press-gang the marmoset into his service, and his robots soon have the house surrounded. Sticks rescues Monkey-Boy in the scrap, the grateful marmoset lifts the curse, and everyone heads home relieved. It lasts until Sticks meets a seven-legged spider of an ominous colour, and only Knuckles flicking it away saves them from another quest.
S01E30 Chili Dog Day Afternoon

Mrs. Vandersnout has been busy. Every member of Team Sonic has bought a “one-of-a-kind” pepper from her for the village Chili Dog Cook-Off, and every one of them is identical. Knuckles goes foraging for something better and bites into a wild red pepper. He keels over on the spot.
What follows is gloriously strange. At the contest, Eggman’s chili is so hot it sets fire to its bowl, so Knuckles buys a map to the Lost Pepper of Claggerhorn and braves the Lands of the Doomed and a field of exploding ducklings. His quarry is no vegetable but a sword-wielding scotch bonnet, captain of a pepper tribe whose prophecy promises “a big, dumb oaf” to lead them home. Knuckles fits the bill.
Their lost homeland is, it turns out, the village, and Knuckles leads a kilted invasion of the cook-off, until he refuses to let his new captain hurt Sonic and knocks him into a chili pot. The pepper finds it as relaxing as a hot spring, a deal is struck, and Knuckles’ pepper-juice chili wins. Then he wakes up in the woods, a day late for the real contest, and burps fire at his laughing friends.
S01E31 Closed Door Policy

Sticks’ burrow is crammed with junk, and Amy, who has dropped by before their girls’ night at the volcano, is appalled. Ignoring her friend’s protests (and Sonic’s warning that she is being pushy), she drags the lot outside for a yard sale. Shoppers arrive, Eggman among them, haggling and trying to shoplift.
It turns out at least one piece of junk was doing an important job. The old surfboard Amy pulls from the back of the burrow had been wedged against a stone door, and behind it lives a tribe of Froglodytes, who pour out, overrun the sale and drag Sticks underground as a sacrifice to their idol, Frogymandias. The boys can’t resist pointing out whose fault this is.
Armed with whatever the yard sale has left, the team storms the caves, though Sticks has already wriggled free and has the high priest in an armlock by the time they arrive. With the door barricaded again, the girls finally get their night out, the boys mind the stall, and the comic book Eggman buys is promptly blown up by a leftover Explode-o-nut from his coconut-bomb scheme. Down below, the Froglodytes are enjoying their new furniture.
S01E32 Mayor Knuckles

Mayor Fink fancies a fishing trip, and of all the people who could mind the village while he is gone, he ends up with Knuckles. The new mayor’s approach to government is simple: stamp everything, read nothing.
The results arrive quickly. Sticks wakes from a nap to the sound of a jackhammer, because a shopping mall is going up on her land; three villagers are fighting over one plot that Knuckles has promised to all of them; and the garbage collector has been sent on holiday, which brings a furious Eggman to city hall to complain, only to be told to take a number.
When Sonic and the gang try to stop the madness, their new mayor simply outlaws each of their attacks, and only an empty ink pad saves them. Eggman then storms in with robots, planning to stamp a law of his own, until Sticks smashes the stamp and Knuckles flattens the lot with one ground pound. Fink comes home to a wrecked village and an apologetic stand-in, and Eggman, still waiting about his bins, is told to take a number.
S01E33 Eggman the Auteur

Eggman has gone Hollywood. His new film tells the story of his rivalry with Sonic, as Sonic learns when he and Tails wreck a robot in the middle of a take. Sonic wants nothing to do with it, so the doctor casts Dave the Intern as Sonic, and Dave plays him as a complete dimwit.
That is too much to bear. Sonic agrees to star, with Amy as his pushy agent, and the production becomes a battle of egos. Amy won’t let her client do dangerous stunts, so a blue-painted Knuckles takes the falls; the star brings in Tails as script doctor; Eggman hates the changes, and his star walks off the set.
Then Orbot and Cubot tip Sonic off that the film is a cover for drilling out a rare mineral to build a new robot army. Sonic wrecks the drilling robot with the cameras catching every second: the tip was bait to get the finale in the can. At the premiere the audience laughs in all the wrong places, and Eggman realises his real scheme has failed too. He forgot to fit the camera with the gadget that was meant to hypnotise everyone watching.
S01E34 Just a Guy

Two words get Sonic into more trouble than any Eggman scheme. Turning down Mike the Ox’s request to come along to a battle, he calls him “just a guy”, and the village decides it has been insulted. Amy diagnoses an attitude problem and signs everyone up for her sensitivity seminar, complete with paper hats and trips to their happy place.
Sonic’s apology backfires. He invites Mike to the next fight, Cubot lands on him and breaks his leg, and now Sonic is being scolded for taking “just a guy” into danger. Defending himself, he refers to the villagers as “you people”, and that is the last straw for everyone, including Sonic, who quits being a hero altogether.
With Sonic in his hammock and the others off camping, the Lightning Bolt Society gets ambitious and sets a flock of sheep loose on the village. Sonic can’t ignore the cries for help, and with Mike calling out tips he fends off Eggman by hurling sheep, then pens the Society in with the flock. The villagers apologise, Sonic calls Mike a hero and Amy takes the credit, before Willy Walrus says “you people” and the whole cycle starts again.
S01E35 Two Good to Be True

Picture a world where Dave is on Team Sonic, Eggman dresses in green, Sonic is the lovable oaf and Knuckles is the brilliant leader. When a misfiring Octopus Bot opens a hole in reality, that Knuckles falls through it and lands on the beach in front of our Team Sonic, closely followed by the regular model.
A blue party hat is enough to tell them apart, but the visitor finds this world baffling (even Dave isn’t his Dave), and Sticks is horrified at the thought of a second Sticks. Worse, our Knuckles starts to flicker, and Tails warns that two of him in one universe will make both universes collapse. The clever Knuckles has already gone to Eggman, hoping to recreate the blast that brought him here.
Eggman has simply locked him in a cage. Once Sonic, Amy and Sticks explain that reality is about to collapse in his freshly waxed lab, though, the doctor hands over both the prisoner and the lasers Tails needs. A fist-bump between the two echidnas, a pause while Tails fetches batteries for the remote, and the other Knuckles is home, helping his own clumsy Sonic back to his feet.
S01E36 Beyond the Valley of the Cubots

Somebody has been stealing tools from Tails’ workshop and, it turns out, from Eggman’s lair too. The culprits are hiding in the jungle, and they all look like Cubot: a whole colony of rejected Cubot prototypes who slipped out of the lair after Eggman discarded them and set up home in a valley of their own.
Cubot, used to being the butt of every joke, suddenly finds himself the centre of attention and decides to stay. Eggman takes the news badly. As he explains to Orbot, he never managed to perfect the Cubot line and moved on to the Orbot series instead, and in any case Cubot knows far too many lair secrets to be allowed to leave.
When the doctor arrives with his robots, the prototypes refuse to run, so it is up to Sonic and Tails to defend the valley. Cubot ends the fight by trying to hug his old boss and accidentally throwing Burnbot out of whack, and Sonic ties the robot up in its own arms. The heroes promise to find the prototypes somewhere safe, and back at the lair, Orbot is quietly pleased to have his partner home.
S01E37 Next Top Villain

In his bedroom, with a cape, a helmet and a box of action figures, Dave the Intern is the greatest supervillain of all time. In real life his homemade schemes fizzle, Team Sonic barely notices, Eggman mocks him, and his mother wants to know why he can’t be more like the doctor.
Then luck intervenes. A Dave tantrum spooks one of his attack rabbits onto the Eggmobile’s controls, a laser fells a palm tree, and Eggman wakes up locked in his own Electrocage in Dave’s bedroom. Orbot and Cubot haven’t noticed he is gone. Dave announces on the news that he is the island’s new top villain, and when Sonic laughs it off on camera, he steals the Octopus Bot to prove it.
In Dave’s head, the village flees in terror; in reality, he just drives into things. Sonic has to spring Eggman to find out how to stop the robot, and the doctor only reveals the off switch under its head once he sees Amy and Knuckles tearing it apart. A selfie at the wheel sends Dave careering into his own home, Sonic flips the switch, and Dave’s mother is thrilled: her boy is finally a real villain.
S01E38 New Year’s Retribution

Some people make New Year’s resolutions about exercise. Eggman’s was to beat Sonic at least once, and with hours of the year left he is still waiting. The answer arrives on a dinner plate, in the form of Orbot’s pot roast: if slow-cooker technology can do that to a roast, why not to time itself?
He springs his Slow Motion Machine on the village party just before midnight. Unfortunately for him, Sonic is so fast that slowed-down time barely affects him, while the doctor’s own weapons dawdle along with everyone else. Plan B is a string of contests, from hopscotch to chess, and Sonic wins them all.
Finally, with seconds to spare, Sonic lets Eggman win a dance-off by tumbling into some boxes on purpose. The catch: in real time the whole thing took a blink, so not a single witness saw the great victory. The old enemies settle for wishing each other a happy New Year under the fireworks.
S01E39 Battle of the Boy Bands

The village has a bad case of Beaver Fever, and the patients include Amy, who swears pop star Justin Beaver’s songs speak to her personally, and Sticks, who has papered her burrow with his merchandise. Every female fan in town is behaving very strangely. Sonic, Tails and Knuckles smell a rat, but the only way backstage is to be in the music business.
So they become a boy band. After much debate they reject Knuckles’ suggestion, Dude-itude, for sounding too cool, and settle on Dreamboat Express because it sounds terrible. Posing as the opening act, they overhear Justin’s producer, Dixon, explaining the plan: the music is mind control, designed to turn fans into mindless shoppers, and the next concert will brainwash every woman for five miles.
Amy and Sticks won’t hear a word against Justin, so Tails builds a gadget to measure his frequency, and a sing-off on stage gives him the reading he needs. Then the boys switch to rock as Dude-itude after all, and Sonic’s guitar solo floors Justin and breaks the spell. The merchandise goes in the bin, Justin quits music for reality TV, and Dixon is left counting his losses.
S01E40 Tails’ Crush

Tails has stopped making sense. He forgets to time Sonic and Knuckles’ wheelbarrow race, he grins at nothing, and when a fox called Zooey says hello, he can only stammer. Sonic diagnoses the problem at once: a crush. The cure is harder to find.
Every friend has a method, and every method backfires. Playing it cool makes Zooey think he isn’t interested; Knuckles’ macho act involves ordering a very rare steak; a romantic film inspires a serenade that leaves her baffled; and Sticks’ courtship dance, feathers and all, mostly makes Zooey worry about his health. Meanwhile Eggman is having an exasperating day of his own, stuck waiting for a parcel at the post office.
It is Eggman, watching the disaster unfold, who gives the only sensible advice: stop copying people and be yourself. His parcel finally arrives, a Background Music Generator to give his attacks a proper soundtrack, and his robot promptly grabs Zooey. Tails waves off the team and rescues her alone, earning a kiss, and the defeated doctor is pleased enough with his advice to play them something romantic.
S01E41 Bro-Down Showdown

Never leave Sonic and Knuckles alone in your house. Amy learns this the hard way while she is out collecting a Most Selfless Award she nominated herself for: a few stunts and a plate of nachos later, her couch is ruined. The boys’ only chance of replacing it before she gets back is to win one on Comedy Chimp’s new best-friends quiz.
Eggman has been eavesdropping, and turns up at the auditions too. When the show’s producer pairs Sonic with his arch-enemy, Sonic ditches Knuckles without a second thought, and a hurt Knuckles finds his way onto the show with Mike the Ox instead.
The doctor’s real trick comes mid-show: his robot attacks the village, and stepping in would break the rules and forfeit the couch. Knuckles goes it alone and is soon in trouble, until Sonic picks his friend over the prize and the pair finish the robot off together. The prize ends up with Dave and Lady Walrus, of all people. Amy’s, meanwhile, is destroyed for good when a missile Knuckles knocked away earlier crashes into her house, which at least gets rid of the nacho stains.
S01E42 Late Night Wars

Comedy Chimp is having a makeover photo shoot to update his image when Knuckles, on a whim, puts a dented old trash can on his head, and the photographer turns her camera on him instead. One newspaper spread later, Knuckles is the village’s hottest celebrity, turning down Eggman Industries and endorsing Meh Burger instead.
Comedy Chimp, sniping at the newcomer on air without naming him, needs a stand-in while he goes off for cosmetic treatment. He picks Knuckles, expecting him to flop on live television. Instead Knuckles’ fumbling with the cue cards is a hit, the network fires the chimp, and the jealous former host strikes a bargain with Eggman: the doctor gets to stage a robot attack live on air, with his company as sponsor, and Knuckles gets dumped.
The robots storm the studio mid-interview with action star Tommy Thunder, and Team Sonic rushes to help a friend whose ego has grown a little large. With the attack beaten, and Eggman sent stumbling off with the famous trash can over his head, Comedy Chimp gets his show back, but the deal stands. His first ad for his new sponsor, a Kitty Funball, explodes in his face.
S01E43 Fire in a Crowded Workshop

Tails comes home to a smoking workshop, three singed friends and a stranger, Perci the bandicoot, nursing a hurt arm. Everyone agrees they were only trying to help her mend her bike. On every other point, they disagree completely.
Cue the show’s riff on Rashomon. Sonic’s account is a hero’s tale with Sonic as the hero. Knuckles reimagines himself as a dashing sea captain who saves the day with frosty breath. Amy’s is a story about one sensible grown-up surrounded by boys making fools of themselves over a flirt. Each version blames someone else for the fire, and in every one Sticks rushes past with a new conspiracy theory.
Perci, sick of the lot of them, offers her own unflattering version, and it settles nothing either. The answer comes from Tails himself: how did they get in past his brand-new laser alarm? The culprit was his own glitchy alarm. Cleared, the trio wander off for lunch, while Perci stays to flirt with the fox fixing her bike.
S01E44 It Wasn’t Me, It Was the One-Armed Hedgehog

Someone has made off with Eggman’s Particle Accelerator, plus a pile of the villagers’ belongings, and every crime scene is littered with footprints that match Sonic’s and the remains of chili dogs. The police want Sonic, Mayor Fink has a mob on his hands, and Sonic takes the classic wrongly-accused route: he slips away to find the real culprit himself.
Undercover as “Bob”, a warehouse hand in another village, he gets a tip-off from his workmate Earl, then a dilemma when Earl is flattened by a stray horseshoe: chase the lead, or fetch the orchid the local doctor needs for a cure? He fetches the orchid. Knuckles, who has volunteered to catch Sonic without the mob’s help, eventually catches up, and turns out to be on his friend’s side.
Together they find a remote shack and the real thief, Metal Sonic, who flattens Knuckles and juices himself up with the stolen machine. A cross-island chase ends when Sonic overloads it with, of all things, a horseshoe. Eggman, needless to say, knows nothing about any of it. A few villagers never get the news and are still out hunting the hedgehog after dark, until the jungle noises scare them home.
S01E45 Robot Battle Royale

Knuckles has a new calling. He scratches his back with Tails’ latest gadget, Sonic jokes that he has invented something, and the echidna takes it to heart. Armed with a flyer for a no-holds-barred robot fighting tournament and a few playground taunts, he bullies Tails into a head-to-head contest of inventors.
Knuckles’ entry, the Vacuu-Fan 2000, is knocked out in the first round, as everyone expected. Tails’ Hypnobot, built to take control of other machines, makes the final, where it meets a scaled-down robot belonging to Eggman, who has cheated his way to the top: his company built the box that was supposed to keep everyone’s override codes safe. Victory in hand, he heads for Tails’ workshop to hypnotise everything in it.
The one machine he can’t hijack is Knuckles’ useless fan, which has no brain to control, so Tails rides inside it right up to Hypnobot and flips the controls back. The doctor’s army ends up dancing, and he slinks off in disgrace. Knuckles retires from inventing while he is ahead, and Sonic declares the Eggman problem solved, moments before a rival contestant’s robot dog kicks Hypnobot into orbit.
S01E46 No Robots Allowed

Even a supervillain has to answer to his homeowners’ association. Eggman’s, the Archipelago Homeowners Association, takes an interest after a smashed robot crash-lands on its lunch table at Meh Burger, and the ultimatum is blunt: no more machines, or no more home.
The doctor only had robots to spare because of a heatwave. Too stingy to run his air conditioning, he fitted solar panels and poured the surplus power into an attack on the village, which failed like all the others, while Team Sonic were busy being blown about by the Tailsmobile’s propeller in an attempt to keep cool. Now he hides every machine he owns and invites the board to a posh dinner.
The forecast rain brings lightning, the lightning hits the solar panels, and the overcharged robots run amok in the middle of the meal. Caught out, Eggman locks his guests in his Electrocage, and Team Sonic has to rescue them, which is easier than usual because his frazzled robots refuse to move. Eggman keeps his home anyway, by convincing the association that his robots are art, and settles in for a long night of repairs.
S01E47 Fuzzy Puppy Buddies

Amy has a secret passion, Fuzzy Puppies, a tabletop game played with collectible figures, and her friends think it is the lamest thing they have ever seen. Then she finds a fellow fan in the last person anyone would expect: Eggman. In between battles, the two start meeting up to play, and the doctor turns out to be a natural.
Amy’s friends can tell something is going on, and when they spy Eggman at her house, they assume the worst and burst in to rescue her. The awkward truth comes out, along with news of tomorrow’s Puppy Con. Fearing the doctor is up to no good, Sonic decides the team will go too, even if it ruins his cool image.
At the convention, Eggman spots the one piece missing from his collection, the rare Fancy Poodle, in Stratford’s hands, and steals it while Orbot and Cubot, dressed as the Lightning Bolt Society, create a diversion. Amy wins it back in a winner-takes-all match with a cunning play involving Gertie the Bulldog and a Cuteness Hat, then has to threaten their friendship before he hands it over. Soon the unlikely pair are back at the lair for another game.
S01E48 Designated Heroes

Five against one isn’t fair, Eggman complains after yet another defeat, with Orbot and Cubot providing sports-style commentary from the sidelines. If the heroes really believe in fair play, he says, they should take him on one at a time. Sonic, never one to back down, agrees for all of them.
It is a terrible idea. The doctor beats each hero by turning their personality against them: Amy hands over her hammer for “charity”, Sticks is spooked by talk of aliens, Tails is flattered into giving up the controls to his new force-field gadget and Knuckles warms up so enthusiastically he never gets round to fighting. Sonic laughs at them all, then waits so long for his turn that he holds a tea party with some rocks and dozes off.
He wakes in a cage built from his friends’ confiscated gear. Still smarting, they come to help anyway, sticking to one-on-one but tagging in and out like a wrestling team, and Eggman ends up in the cage instead. Then Sonic boasts that he landed the final blow, so the others leave him locked in with the doctor, who passes the time singing.
S01E49 Role Models

Saving the village for the millionth time earns Team Sonic a trophy each and the title of official role models, which sounds lovely until it comes with a minder. D.B. Platypus, an image consultant sent by the mayor, arrives with a whistle and a rulebook, and he blows the one every time someone breaks the other.
Out go goofing off and fighting; in come table manners, home cooking (which leaves Amy’s kitchen coated in purple sludge) and lectures about setting an example. Sticks is the first to snap and quits. Eggman, meanwhile, is sulking because he has never won a trophy, and after failing to earn one, he decides to steal one instead.
When the doctor attacks, D.B.’s safety rules mean Sonic must wear a jacket and honk a horn as he runs, and the team is told to use words, not fists. The Bee Bots are unimpressed, and so are the watching children. Sticks, the one dropout, saves the day: she arrives Tarzan-style, slingshots D.B. into a bin, treats the kids to lunch and gets the others fighting again. Sonic’s verdict: role models are overrated.
S01E50 Cabin Fever

Amy has written a play starring thinly disguised versions of her friends, and they were never meant to see it. Unfortunately a thunderstorm traps everyone at her house, where her guests ignore her planned activities, demolish the snacks, break her glass unicorn and get bored, and boredom sends Sonic snooping through her drawers.
A Rose Without Thorns stars the wonderful Annie Rose, surrounded by an egomaniac called Sonar, a dim strongman called Shoulders, a jumpy Taylor and a conspiracy-obsessed Twigs. Amy is furious they read it, they are furious about how she sees them, and the house splits into rival forts. The stand-off ends in a giant pillow fight.
That clears the air between the others, but it leaves Amy’s home in ruins, and she storms out, smashing through her own door. Realising they were the problem, her friends make it up to her that night by staging her play in the village centre, with Dave as Annie. The audience loves it, Amy takes a bow, and then another storm hits and everyone runs back to her house.
S01E51 Counter Productive

A late-night TV plug for Soar the Eagle’s self-help book, Counter Productive, hits Knuckles hard. Anyone who doesn’t make amends to the people they have wronged, Soar says, is a monster, and Knuckles remembers Charlie, whose apple baskets he once emptied to use as stilts. Charlie lost that job years ago and now digs for ancient relics. He insists he is happy. Knuckles insists on helping.
Help, Knuckles-style, means a sandwich thrown in the lake, a priceless artifact smashed twice, a shovel to the foot, every marker flag pulled up and, finally, a buried weapon set off that blows up a ruin in front of Charlie’s boss. Fired, then thrown out by his wife, Belinda, Charlie snaps, digs up an ancient mech suit and makes Knuckles’ life a misery.
Still following the book, Knuckles refuses to fight back, until his friends find the page saying the rules no longer apply once the wronged party becomes a supervillain. One brief scrap later, Knuckles has his win and a truce, which Belinda accepts on her husband’s behalf. At home she congratulates Charlie on his new villain career; her fingers were crossed, and the pair cackle together.
S01E52 It Takes a Village to Defeat a Hedgehog

While Team Sonic loses a long war with a flat-pack bookcase, Eggman is assembling something more dangerous: every villain on the island, from the Lightning Bolt Society to T.W. Barker and the newly evil Charlie, united to destroy the heroes. The guest of honour, to the doctor’s starstruck delight, is Shadow the Hedgehog.
Team-building does not go well. Shadow lets Eggman fall during the trust exercise, refuses to play zip-zap-zop, dismisses the rest as fools and teleports away. The other villains rally round their boss anyway, and their ambush works at first: Team Sonic is split up, each hero tied down by a different enemy, and Sonic faces Eggman, Charlie’s mech and a Giant Robot at once.
His secret weapon is a spare bookcase plank, turned into a seesaw that launches him through two robots. Then Shadow returns, purely to fight Sonic himself, and has the upper hand until the flash from an Eggman selfie blinds him. Promising a rematch on his own terms, he vanishes again. The heroes celebrate with a game of volleyball using the Eggmobile, Eggman included, while Orbot and Cubot wonder whether to start a petition for more episodes.

Broadcast & Air Dates
Cartoon Network premiered Sonic Boom with two episodes on Saturday 8 November 2014 and then showed new episodes mostly in pairs on Saturday mornings. After “Eggman Unplugged” on 16 May 2015 there was a two-month break, and the second half resumed on 13 July 2015 with ten weekday premieres in a row before returning to Saturdays. The finale aired on 14 November 2015.
France was often ahead. Canal J began on 19 November 2014, and French viewers had seen the whole season by 20 September 2015, almost two months before the US finale; many episodes premiered in French weeks or months before Cartoon Network showed them. A few English premieres happened outside America too: according to Wikipedia’s episode list, “Closed Door Policy” and “Blue with Envy” were first shown in the UK, and “Curse of the Cross Eyed Moose” in Australia, before Cartoon Network aired them.

Season 1 Trivia
- In the very first episode we learn that Sonic cannot swim, and it is Tails who has to fish him out.
- In “The Meteor” the voices stay with the bodies: once the minds swap, Mike Pollock voices Sonic stuck in Eggman’s body and Roger Craig Smith voices Eggman in Sonic’s.
- Plenty of episode titles riff on films: “Hedgehog Day”, “Dude, Where’s My Eggman?”, “Chili Dog Day Afternoon”, “Beyond the Valley of the Cubots”, “It Wasn’t Me, It Was the One-Armed Hedgehog” and more; “My Fair Sticksy” and “How to Succeed in Evil Without Really Trying” borrow from musicals.
- Reid Harrison wrote more Season 1 episodes than anyone else, fifteen in all, most of them in the second half; the writing team of Alan Denton and Greg Hahn wrote or co-wrote nine.
- Natalys Raut-Sieuzac, the series director, also wrote three Season 1 episodes: “Let’s Play Musical Friends”, “Curse of the Cross Eyed Moose” and “Fire in a Crowded Workshop”.
- The season ends with Orbot and Cubot wondering what a second season might hold. Cartoon Network had listed the show for 2015–16, but Season 2 was only announced in October 2015 and did not air until October 2016.
