Virtual Danger is episode 40 of Sonic Underground, DiC’s 1999 cartoon about Sonic, Sonia and Manic, the hedgehog triplets of Queen Aleena. It is number 40 in production order – the order TF1 first showed the series in France, where it premiered on 23 May 1999 – and it was the 40th episode to air in the United States, on 22 October 1999. It was written by Ben Hurst and Pat Allee, and its song is “Don’t Let Your Guard Down”.
Synopsis

Castle Conquest is the new obsession – or rather Sonic and Manic’s, who insist the virtual-reality game is improving their piloting. Sonia is not convinced and Cyrus needs them sharp for a mission, but the practice pays off when the brothers intercept one of Robotnik’s supply ships.
Their next session brings a new opponent, Destructo, who claims to have written the game and offers the brothers a couple of upgrades. The second one is the hook. Destructo is Robotnik in disguise, and the downloads lock Sonic and Manic inside the game, where losing now means more than losing a life.
It falls to Sonia, the sibling who never cared for the game, to plug in and play her way through it to bring her brothers home. It is the last episode of the series, and Queen Aleena is still out there.
The Song: “Don’t Let Your Guard Down”
“Don’t Let Your Guard Down” is the warning Sonic and Manic should have heeded before downloading Destructo’s updates.
