Gerald’s message ends with his own execution by firing squad, and for once hero and villain are on the same side: the Master Emerald could neutralise the Chaos Emeralds and halt the ARK. Sonic wins his duel with Shadow, but it is Chris who reaches him, begging for help – and Shadow finally remembers Maria’s real last wish: that he help the people of Earth, not destroy them.

Shadow joins the battle against the Biolizard, Project Shadow’s monstrous prototype, which fuses itself to the colony to drag it down. Using the Emeralds, Sonic and Shadow become Super Sonic and Super Shadow, and on Earth Scarlet Garcia tells everyone what is happening, so people everywhere cheer them on.

With his Limiters off, Shadow pours everything into a joint Chaos Control that pushes the ARK back into a safe orbit, but it costs him all his strength, and he does not come back with the others. Sonic hands Chris one of Shadow’s rings, and a tear falls on it. Leaving the room, Sonic says a quiet goodbye to his rival.
