Synopsis
Over coffee at the mansion, Knuckles explains that Chaos smashed the Master Emerald and sent Angel Island crashing into the sea. The friends split up: Knuckles goes after the shards, Chris and Big after Froggy, and Sonic and Tails take the X-Tornado Emerald-hunting. Their find, the cyan gem, is snatched by Eggman along with Tails’ green Emerald and fed to Chaos.
Sonic still beats the stronger Chaos, though the X-Tornado is badly damaged and Tails ends up in bandages. Knuckles’ first shard of the Master Emerald pulls him into the past: an ancient echidna tribe whose chief, Pachacamac, is at war for the Chaos Emeralds, while his daughter Tikal begs him to stop.
Amy, Cream and Cheese, meanwhile, plan a gourmet meal for the wounded heroes and make a new friend – a little Flicky bird with a Chaos Emerald on her necklace, whom Amy names Lily. Their happy day ends when Eggman’s robot ZERO recognises the bird and flies off with both Lily and Amy.
