Back in their own world, Sonic’s friends are getting on with their lives – Cream is living with her mother again, though Amy turns down her offer to move in – but nobody knows where Sonic is. Even Eggman, announcing his return from his flying fortress, is hoping to lure him out, and Knuckles and Rouge trade theories about what is keeping him.

Tails takes on Eggman’s ship alone and is chased by a homing Interceptor Missile. Just as it closes in, Super Sonic bursts out of a portal and blows it up. Sonic is home, and everyone is back where they belong.

On Earth, Chris gazes up at the Moon and remembers his friend. Six years later, a teenage Chris and Frances are still working on a portal, though it is useless until he can create Chaos Control – and as he thinks back to the goodbye, to Super Sonic’s tears and his own, the stage is set for Season 3.

  • On home video: Japanese DVD/VHS volume 13 (Victor Entertainment, 21 July 2004); 4Kids/FUNimation volume 10, The Beginning of the End (16 May 2006); the The Egg Moon, Emerl & Homebound Sagas DVD set (2009); and Discotek’s Sonic X Collection 1 (2016) and complete-series Blu-rays.
