Coachnik is episode 43 of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog in production order (production code 238-143), the order used by the DVDs, WildBrain’s official uploads and our episode guide. It was the 31st episode to air in the 1993 syndicated run, on 18 October 1993. It was written by Doug Molitor and directed by Kent Butterworth.
Synopsis
Tails wants to help Sonic deal with Scratch and Grounder, but the robots wreck their own oil-and-flamethrower trap before he gets the chance. Back at base, Robotnik decides the problem is fitness: his henchmen need to train harder.
He feeds the robot-maker sports books, strategy videos, sand, steel and a great deal of ham, and out marches Coachnik, a pushy robot coach who puts Scratch, Grounder and later Coconuts through a gruelling training camp.
Robotnik has an ulterior motive: a bomb shaped like a football, hidden inside Grounder’s head as a trap for Sonic. The result is a frantic football match with Grounder’s head as the ball, while Sonic turns the doctor’s equipment against the robots.
