Aboard the M.S.S. Gigantic in a thunderstorm, Captain Finny reveals his secret weapon against the icebergs ahead: Sonic, in a sailor suit, ready to buzz-saw the ice into snow cones. Then the ship’s guiding light, Lighthouse 1, the most important lighthouse on Mobius, suddenly goes dark.

It is the start of Robotnik’s plan to cripple the planet’s travel by air, sea and rail and take total control. He has rigged an airport, the lighthouse and a train station with bombs that will all explode at once.

Sonic has to race around the planet, from airport to sea to railway, with Tails and the clock against him, to defuse all three in time.
