Camping out after an adventure, Sonic and Tails meet a strange clown who tells terrible jokes, pumps up his flat tyre, folds up his car and pedals off on a unicycle with Tails’ chili dog. The chase leads into a cave, with Coconuts spying on them all the way.

Professor Von Schlemmer has built a machine that can bring dreams into the real world, and Robotnik makes him change it so that it summons nightmares instead. Out of it comes a Boogey Man who terrorises the people of Mobius.

Sonic and Tails cannot beat a nightmare on their own, so with the professor’s help they go after the machine in Robotnik’s fortress. Sonic gets the doctor to fall asleep and turns the dream machine against him.
