Synopsis

Under the sea lies Labyrinth – a nod to the Labyrinth Zone of the first game – and its Power Pearls, which Robotnik wants for an unstoppable robot army. King Saline has troubles of his own: his daughter, Princess Bubbles, is in love with Surff, a young surfer the king thinks unworthy of her, and he banishes the boy.
Robotnik’s submarine breaks open the city dome and takes Bubbles hostage to force the king’s hand. Surff goes looking for a hero and finds Sonic and Tails up on dry land, halfway through the washing-up. The three ride a paddle-sub down past the doctor’s machines – only for the king to throw them all in the dungeon.
Sonic promises Surff they will not just save the princess but prove him worthy. Breaking out, they turn a handful of explosive pearls on the doctor’s torpedoes, slice his robot manta ray in two and blow his sub apart. Surff frees Bubbles himself, and the king makes him commander of the kingdom’s defence force.
