Robotnik wrecks the treehouse of a family of sloths to lure Sonic into a trap, and one of them, Rocket, taps out a call for help. Back at base, the doctor unveils his slow-motion beam: one zap and the target crawls along at sloth speed for an hour, mind racing but body barely moving.

Sonic and Tails fix the sloths’ home while the robots open fire, and Robotnik himself takes an accidental blast. Then Grounder dresses up as a sloth in distress, Sonic stops to help, and Scratch slows him right down. The hedgehog is caged in a cave while the robots phone home with the good news.

With the sloths too slow to help, Tails goes in alone. He grabs the ray, flips it into reverse and speeds the sloths up into a lightning-fast commando squad, then gets Sonic back up to speed so the whole gang can turn the tables on Robotnik.

Key Moments

  • The slow-motion beam: one blast, one hour of sloth speed.
  • Grounder’s sloth disguise is enough to fool Sonic.
  • Tails reverses the ray and creates super-fast sloths.
