Synopsis

Robotnik’s hedgehog detector spots Sonic in the Marble Zone, and Scratch and Grounder are catapulted in to grab him. Sonic and Tails escape down a geyser into a maze of underground tunnels – with the robots close behind.
Down below lies a cavern stuffed with gold and gems, guarded by Spelunk, a miserly mole who is convinced that everyone is out to rob him. He chases the pair through his mine on a runaway minecart, and when they nearly reach daylight he flattens the stairs beneath them and drops them into a cage made of diamondius, the hardest substance on Mobius.
It takes Robotnik to change Spelunk’s mind. When the doctor’s forces barge into the mine looking for Sonic, they free the prisoners by accident, and the mole realises the hedgehog is the only one who can protect his riches. Sonic and Tails help drive the invaders out, and Spelunk learns a little about sharing.
