On a test flight over Station Square, the X-Tornado’s new power source, the green Chaos Emerald, suddenly drags Tails into a dive towards Diamond Stadium. Albert Butler, its groundskeeper of thirty years, has found a gem of his own, and when the two Emeralds meet they shoot a beam of light into the sky. The old ballpark, he sadly explains, is due to be demolished.

The light brings Eggman running, and he proposes a sporting solution: a baseball game, his Ballios robots against Sonic’s friends, with both Emeralds as the prize. Chris strikes out against a robot pitcher with a stretching arm, Knuckles joins in, and as the innings go by the empty stands fill with fans who have come to watch the strangest game in town.

When Sonic’s side edges ahead, Eggman cheats, clamping onto Sonic’s head a robot that claims it is about to explode. Knuckles knocks it off, but in the confusion Eggman flees with the cyan Emerald. The crowd has a happier effect: Elmer Johnson, who runs the club, saw the game on TV and hires Albert to move the old turf to the new stadium.
