Now that everyone understands how they got here, the plan is simple: Chaos Control needs all seven Chaos Emeralds, so if the gang can find them, they may be able to go home. One of the gems, as it happens, is already buried under a building site in Station Square.

The government has worries of its own. The President’s advisers keep watch on Eggman’s island, and they plant an undercover agent where he can keep an eye on Sonic’s new friends: Chris’ class gets a new teacher, Mr. Stewart, who soon asks whether Chris is the son of the industrialist Nelson Thorndyke.

When the Emerald turns up at the site, Chris spots the Tornado from the classroom window and bolts. Eggman sends his robot Beacon to keep Sonic busy and grabs the gem, but Chris clings to the Egg Mobile, yanks Eggman’s moustache and falls with the green Emerald in his hand – and Sonic catches him just in time.
