Feeling left out by the busy Freedom Fighters, Tails brings home a new friend: a baby terapod who has wandered away from its herd. When the gang returns “Baby T” to its mother, Sally realises the whole herd has strayed from its migration route – and that Robotnik, who wants to capture the gentle giants, is behind it.

The herd heads into the Great Jungle, a place few travellers come back from. Sally uses a translator to talk with Mama T, the terapods knock a tree trunk into a pool of quicksand to save Sonic, and Robotnik’s Stealthbots hunt the herd with heat-seeking radar, trapping Freedom Fighters and terapods alike behind a force field.

Sonic frees them and leads the Stealthbots straight into a patch of Scorch Plants, which destroy them; Robotnik only just swerves clear. The herd reaches the safety of Boulder Bay, where Robotnik will never find it. Tails has to say goodbye, but Sally’s translator belt lets Baby T speak – in a perfect imitation of Sonic.

Sonic and the Freedom Fighters encounter the dinosaur-like terapods as they migrate through the Great Jungle, and defend them when Robotnik tries to capture them. Tails forges a friendship with the small baby terapod, who he nicknames “Baby T”, while Sally tests a language translation device on “Mama T”, who is able to warn them of dangers in the jungle.
