Synopsis

Disguised as a hillbilly, Sonic swaps Robotnik a tiny bag of gold for a whole cart of stolen loot, and he and Tails set off to return it to its owners. Robotnik is delighted anyway: with the gold, he can build an army of robots.
His other new invention is a high-speed gum that makes anyone who chews it as fast as Sonic. The gum goes astray and ends up with Tails, who suddenly has all the speed he has ever wanted – and no idea how to steer.
Tails races across the countryside leaving accidents in his wake, and Robotnik is quick to tell the villagers that the little fox is a menace. Alone and on the run, Tails is easy prey for Scratch and Grounder, until Sonic catches up to put things right.
