The Jewel in the Crown is episode 19 of Sonic Underground, DiC’s 1999 cartoon about Sonic, Sonia and Manic, the hedgehog triplets of Queen Aleena. It is number 19 in production order – the order TF1 first showed the series in France, where it premiered on 10 March 1999 – and it was the 19th episode to air in the United States, on 23 September 1999. It was written by Mark Edens, and its song is “The Cosmic Dance”.
Synopsis
Word spreads that a jewel from Queen Aleena’s crown, which glows brighter the closer it gets to her, is in the hands of a merchant. Robotnik wants it to track the Queen down; the siblings want it to find their mother and keep her safe.
Dodging Robotnik’s sneaky Snooper robot, the hedgehogs get the jewel first, and its light grows stronger as they travel. Their hopes rise with it, until it leads them into a trap. The jewel was a decoy all along, planted to lure Robotnik.
Sleet and Dingo end up hanging together, dripping with honey, and the jewel shatters on the floor. The merchant has gone, but behind a cloth the siblings find a portrait of their mother, and as they drive away, Aleena herself watches them from outside.

“The Cosmic Dance” is one of the band’s dreamier numbers, sung while the hedgehogs believe they are about to find their mother.
