The Void is episode 8 of Season 2 of Sonic the Hedgehog, the ABC cartoon fans call SatAM, in the order of our original episode guide and the Shout! Factory DVDs. It was the eighth Season 2 episode to air, on 29 October 1994. It was written by Ben Hurst and directed by Ron Myrick.
Synopsis
Exploring the Great Unknown, Sonic is nearly sucked into a mysterious vortex and brings back a huge ring that Sally takes for an ancient relic. It is really a trap set by the sorcerer Naugus, and it pulls Sally and Bunnie into the Void, the dimension where Robotnik exiled the King. Robotnik, meanwhile, fears what the portal might let loose.
Sonic follows them in and finds a world of crystal, the missing Ari and a figure who claims to be the King. It is Naugus in disguise, using Sonic’s speed to carry him out – only for the sorcerer to discover that, outside the Void, his own magic is turning him to crystal.
After some fun at Robotnik’s expense, Naugus returns to the Void with the real King, vowing to find a way out. Sally has only a brief, tearful reunion with her father, but he leaves her the list of every Freedom Fighter group, and Ari escapes with the heroes. At the Lake of Rings Sonic comforts Sally – and NICOLE starts talking like Sonic.
The Freedom Fighters find some unexpected surprises in the dimensional vortex known only as the Void. Sonic is nearly sucked into it as he’s exploring the Great Unknown, while Bunnie and Sally are pulled into it after researching some ancient artifacts. When Robotnik drives Sonic into the void, he meets up with Sally and Bunnie. The ruler of the Void (Ixis Naugus) introduces himself, and brings them to the King and Ari.
