A Doomsday pod crashes down in Knothole, and Sonic and Sally realise that Robotnik’s ultimate weapon is already running, ahead of schedule. The Freedom Fighter groups from the King’s list unite for an all-out assault on the Doomsday Machine, only to discover that Robotnik let them in.

Sonic sends his friends out on a captured pod and stays behind alone. He fails to wreck the control room, is nearly roboticized and escapes only by using several Power Rings at once. Uncle Chuck suggests the one power that could match Robotnik’s, the Deep Power Stones. With NICOLE’s help Sonic finds Robotnik’s stone, and he and Sally bring the two together.

Charged with their energy, Sonic and Sally streak through the machine and vaporise it. Robotnik flees in an escape pod, but the blast overtakes it. That night Knothole celebrates, and Sonic and Sally share a long-awaited kiss. In the ruins, though, an elevator rises and Snively, alone and in a new cape, declares that it is his turn to rule. He is not alone: a pair of eyes glows in the darkness behind him.

Sonic and the Freedom Fighters face Robotnik’s forces in their final assault on Robotnik’s forces. Sonic and Sally admit their love for each other. After nearly being Roboticized, Sonic recovers the Deep Power Stone that Robotnik had, and destroys the Doomsday Project with Sally, casting Robotnik into the Void as they do so. The ending leads to a cliffhanger that involves Snively and a mysterious red-eyed character (Ixis Naugus). This would prove to be the final episode of the series. It ended on a cliff-hanger as DiC (the animation company that made the show) expected ABC to let them do another season, however this did not prove to be the case.
