After Antoine saves Sally’s life on a raid, his bragging drives Sonic off to visit Uncle Chuck, whose bug in Robotnik’s headquarters has gone quiet. While the pair go to steal a replacement from Robotnik’s warehouse, Sally and Bunnie, flying a Hover Unit Rotor has rebuilt, locate the Doomsday Machine and copy its blueprints.

Among the files is a top-secret plan: Robotnik suspects a spy and has damaged the bug to flush him out. A Rocket Dove carries the warning to Knothole, and Antoine sets off to warn Chuck – only to be captured by Snively, who tortures him with dreadful cooking. Sonic rescues Antoine, but Robotnik’s Tech-Bots track the spy’s signal and Chuck is caught.

Sonic rescues his uncle and insists that, with his cover blown, he must come home. Chuck has planned for this: a back-up hideout, and a disguise as a Tech-Bot so he can keep spying, because the Freedom Fighters still need everything he can find out about the Doomsday Project. Sonic, Sally and Bunnie hug him goodbye, and Chuck watches them fly off with a tear in his eye.

Uncle Chuck finds himself increasingly at risk as he operates as a spy for the Freedom Fighters in Robotropolis, nearly being caught by Snively or Robotnik several times as he does things that raise their suspicions. Is his secret safe, or will his free will be taken away?
