Hooked on Sonics is episode 9 of Season 1 of Sonic the Hedgehog, the ABC cartoon fans call SatAM, in the order of our original episode guide and the Shout! Factory DVDs. It was the fourth Season 1 episode to air, on 9 October 1993. It was written by Randy Rogel and directed by Dick Sebast.
Synopsis
Sonic comes back from a solo mission to the Badlands a hero, having beaten Robotnik’s latest war machine, and Knothole throws him a party – complete with a kiss from Sally. Antoine, sick of watching everyone fuss over the hedgehog, decides to prove himself by doing what even Sonic has never done: capture Robotnik.
He takes a Power Ring as bait and lures Robotnik into a pit trap in the Badlands, but the dictator simply rockets out, blasts him and takes both the coyote and the ring. Worse, Robotnik plugs the ring into a new Sonic Radar that can track the hedgehog whenever he runs. When Rotor admits he gave Antoine the idea, Sally persuades a reluctant Sonic to go after him.
Sonic frees Antoine and carries him towards the Great Forest, then tricks Robotnik into firing the radar’s weapon at them as they stand on the Shredder, which is blown apart. Antoine pulls the Power Ring out of the radar, and with his speed restored Sonic gets the SWATbots to destroy the radar too. In Knothole, Antoine tells a heroic version of the rescue – and only Tails stays to listen.
After failing to win the heart of Princess Sally, Antoine tries to show up Sonic and impress Princess Sally by capturing Robotnik himself with the lure of a power ring! Can Sonic save the day, or will Robotnik discover the power ring’s secrets?
