Robotnik launches the Sky Spy, an orbiting station whose sensors are meant to find Knothole from space. Sally decodes his transmissions, and when one of the launch boosters crashes in the Great Forest, Rotor sees an opportunity: he and Sonic turn it into a home-made rocket and fly it up to the station.

Aboard the Sky Spy the pair fight free of a tentacled guard robot, then need a disguise to go further. Sonic dresses up in buckets and scrap, strolls into the station’s robot tavern with a makeshift guitar and joins the band on stage, all while hunting for the spy sensors before they can pinpoint Knothole.

They escape in a stolen Hover Unit and crash-land in a tree back home, but there is a new problem: the Sky Spy is starting to fall out of orbit, and it could come down on Knothole. Rotor’s Super Magnet drags it into the wastelands instead. Knothole cheers its heroes, and Rotor’s new quill-styling machine leaves Sonic with an unwanted mohawk.

Robotnik launches a spy satellite (“Sky Spy”, a space station/spy satellite) to find the location of Knothole Village, but does not anticipate Sally and the others decrypting his transmission signals and learning of this when one of his rocket boosters unknowingly crashes right next to Knothole. Sonic and Rotor use the booster to reach the spy satellite and destroy it.
