Beyond the Valley of the Cubots is episode 36 of Season 1 of Sonic Boom, the CGI comedy series made by OuiDo! Productions with Sega of America. It premiered in the United States on 24 July 2015 on Cartoon Network.
Synopsis
Somebody has been stealing tools from Tails’ workshop and, it turns out, from Eggman’s lair too. The culprits are hiding in the jungle, and they all look like Cubot: a whole colony of rejected Cubot prototypes who slipped out of the lair after Eggman discarded them and set up home in a valley of their own.
Cubot, used to being the butt of every joke, suddenly finds himself the centre of attention and decides to stay. Eggman takes the news badly. As he explains to Orbot, he never managed to perfect the Cubot line and moved on to the Orbot series instead, and in any case Cubot knows far too many lair secrets to be allowed to leave.
When the doctor arrives with his robots, the prototypes refuse to run, so it is up to Sonic and Tails to defend the valley. Cubot ends the fight by trying to hug his old boss and accidentally throwing Burnbot out of whack, and Sonic ties the robot up in its own arms. The heroes promise to find the prototypes somewhere safe, and back at the lair, Orbot is quietly pleased to have his partner home.
Trivia
- The episode gets a sequel in Season 2, “Return to Beyond the Valley of the Cubots”, which brings in D-Fekt from Fire & Ice. The title riffs on the 1970 film Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.
