With a nudge from Robotnik, Bartleby invites Sonia to make her society debut at a ball in one of her family’s old palaces, and she can think of nothing else. Unfortunately the night of the ball is also the night of a vital mission.

Robotnik’s new toy is the Predator, a giant aircraft built to hunt down and roboticize Resistance fighters wherever they hide. The siblings have until its “brain” goes in to take the ship over and plant a device that will cripple it. Daydreaming about the party, Sonia is caught halfway through the job, and Sonic has to help her concentrate. Once the Resistance has the craft, Sonia is chosen to lead its captured members to safety.

She still makes it to the ball. Afterwards a present arrives from her mother: the necklace Aleena wore at her own debutante ball, with a note explaining that she had always meant Sonia to wear it on her own big night, even if her mother could not be there to see it.

The Song: “Society Girl”

“Society Girl” is Sonia’s number, about the posh upbringing she has left behind and a world she has not quite given up.
