Sonia’s amnesiaTashistanThe Queen’s journals
Who Do You Think You Are is episode 8 of Sonic Underground, DiC’s 1999 cartoon about Sonic, Sonia and Manic, the hedgehog triplets of Queen Aleena. It is number 8 in production order – the order TF1 first showed the series in France, where it premiered on 31 January 1999 – and it was the eighth episode to air in the United States, on 8 September 1999. It was written by Ben Hurst and Pat Allee, and its song is “We Need to Be Free”.
Synopsis

The prize this time is Queen Aleena’s royal journals, said to lie buried beneath a palace in the desert city of Tashistan. A stranger slips Manic a scroll that shows the way, and the camper van heads into the dust, much to Sonia’s disgust.
Things go wrong fast. A blow to the head in a scuffle wipes Sonia’s memory, and, with no idea who she is, she sells her power medallion to a trader in town. Rafi, a boy from the city’s resistance, takes the confused princess under his wing – until Sleet and Dingo grab the pair of them.
That leaves Sonic and Manic with a three-part job: win back the medallion, track down the journals and rescue a sister who no longer recognises them. Rafi is moments from the Roboticizer when Sonic runs rings around the machine until it breaks, and Sonia remembers herself in time to drive off with the scroll they came for.
The Song: “We Need to Be Free”
“We Need to Be Free” fits a city living under Robotnik’s thumb, where even a young boy like Rafi is part of the resistance.
Key Moments
